You may have seen a line for "benevolence" on your St. Paul's offering envelopes or giving statements. If you've ever wondered what that meant or what those funds did, here is the scoop!
Each year, St. Paul's as a church makes an important financial commitment to further the work of the Metro DC Synod, the ELCA, and world missions, which we call "benevolence." We believe in supporting the larger work of the church, both in the D.C. area and beyond, from Metro DC Synod programs to ELCA missions overseas.
To help us do that, though, we would ask you to prayerfully consider giving to the Benevolence fund in addition to your generous offerings to St. Paul's current expense or Greater St. Paul's (our capital fund). When congregational contributions to Benevolence fall short of our Synod obligation, we must make up the difference from St. Paul's cash reserves.
To contribute to benevolence, simply designate your offering on your pledge card, envelopes, or plate offerings.
Thank you, and as we set sail on ST. PAUL'S STEWARD SHIP in 2014, please consider increased giving to help us be Good Stewards in the Church, the Community and the World.
