News from the Galveston Workteam
Filed Under News, Social Ministry by St. Paul's Church Office
Dear friends in Christ, greetings from sunny, 70 degree Galveston, Tx. The Galveston gang arrived safely on Monday. We toured the area and witnessed the destruction caused by Hurricane Ike. We then visited the house where we would be working. It is interesting to note that we are working closely with the United Methodist Church Disaster Recovery Program.
Just as in Biloxi, we are impressed and grateful to see the work of the Church in this area. We are presently working on three homes each of which was severely damaged by the hurricane. Each house had about 5 feet of water on the main level. We are doing everything from sanding to mudding to carpentry to electrical work. We have seen no snakes, no crocodiles and no one has sustained injury. That is not to suggest that we are not suffering from aching backs and sore muscles! After a hard day of work we have managed to enjoy great dinners at some local hot spots. Tonight in fact we have been invited for dinner at the home of the sister of one of our volunteers about 30 miles away. That’s it for now, keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday. Take care and God Bless. The Galveston Gang.
