Make it a Day On, Not a Day Off.
2008 is the 40th anniversary of Dr. King’s tragic death, a time that compels us to make an even deeper commitment to the principles of nonviolence and social justice that he stood for because his dream for this country and the “beloved community” has yet to be fulfilled.
Monday, January 21, 2008 is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Last year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers participated in thousands of King Day service projects in all 50 states, D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico. How can you help?
- Serve on the King Holiday – make it a “Day On, not a Day Off.”
- Make the King Holiday the beginning of your year-round commitment to service.
To make this year’s commemoration special, the King Day of Service 2008 will not be limited to a single day dedicated to community service that helps solve social problems. January 21, 2008 will kick off 40 days during which families, schools, faith communities, and other organizations will plan service projects and educational activities promoting Dr. King’s message of nonviolence and social justice.
Visit www.mlkday.gov to find a King Day Service project near you or find ideas on how you, your family and friends can advance the cause of justice and nonviolence.
