An ELCA Reconciling in Christ Congregation Located in Northwest Washington, DC

St. Paul’s Young Adults will gather on Tuesday, March 4 from 6:30-8:00pm at the Transitional Housing Corporation (THC) for an alternative happy hour. This Happy Hour alternative offers the chance to serve underprivileged kids in the District. We will gather to play games, supervise and have snack with the group of children living in THC apartments. During this time the children’s parents will be attending life skill classes. The closest metro station is Georgia-Petworth. The THC 12-passenger van will be parked at the intersection of Quincy and 9th NW to provide safe transport for volunteers from the metro station to the event. The van will leave the metro station at 6:15pm. If you are driving or walking, you can arrive after 6:30pm and still help out. You must complete a background check and registration form to attend this event, so preregistration is required. Contact Pastor Lovell at mlovell@stpaulslutherandc.com to register or for more details.

The St. Paul’s mission team participants are heading to Zambia this Spring and Summer with open arms — ready to provide many hugs, attention and love. But we are not going empty-handed….we’ve got 28 suitcases to fill and a long wish list of needed supplies from Jaime Bugaski, St. Paul’s parishioner and Interim Director at the Sons of Thunder Orphanage.

There are 51 children living at the Orphanage, all six years old or younger!

The 27 girls and 24 boys, range in age from little Moses (age 2 months) to Faith (6 3/4 years old). Although Moses is the only baby, there are 6 more children between the ages of 18-23 months. There are 10 two year olds (8 boys, 2 girls), 5 three year olds (2 boys, 3 girls), 10 four year olds (2 boys, 8 girls), 13 five year olds (4 boys, 9 girls) and 6 six year olds (4 boys, 2 girls).

A critical need at the orphanage is for clothes to fit these growing children. In addition to clothing, Jaime’s wish list includes children’s shoes, children’s CDs and DvDs, art supplies, small toys and a wide variety of drug store/pharmaceutical products.

A list of priority items is available by contacting the church office at office@stpaulslutherand.com. Please help us fill our suitcases! In-kind donations can be placed in the Zambia box located in the Portico. Please purchase items from the list below or stop by the Portico this Sunday to grab a “wish list” from the Zambian Mission display.
