St. Paul’s Youth (SPY & SPY Jr.)
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church has two youth groups: SPY (St. Paul’s Youth) and SPY Jr. SPY is for 9th through 12th grade students and SPY Jr. is for 6th through 8th grade students. There are events for each group individually and for SPY and SPY Jr. combined. There are a variety of activities from service events, mission trips, retreats, lock-ins, and fellowship events.
On the third Saturday of each month the group gathers at St. Paul’s for the Youth Dinner with the Shelter Residents. They gather from 4:00PM to 8:00PM to go grocery shopping and prepare an elegant meal for the shelter residents. Then they enjoy the meal with the residents. This give the youth an opportunity for service and helps them to become more aware of the homelessness in the DC metropolitan area.
One of the highlights for SPY in 2011 was their summer mission trip. On June 25th through July 2nd six of our high school youth went on a mission trip to the Lake Traverse Reservation in South Dakota. They were accompanied by two chaperones. They helped with work projects and daily events for children, while learning about life on a reservation. For pictures from the mission trip, please go to our photo gallery.
