Welcome to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Washington D.C.!
What a privilege it is to gather as God’s people in the nation’s capital, and to serve the Christ centered mission and ministry of St. Paul’s Church. Following a long and fruitful ministry of Pastor Tom Omholt, it is my delight to serve as interim pastor of St. Paul’s.
I can attest to the fact that St. Paul’s is a welcoming community of faith and want to assure you that you are welcome here too. St. Paul’s is a growing “Reconciling in Christ” congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are excited about our worship and music ministry, our education and youth ministry, and our social ministry, which includes a shelter in the church for the homeless, a food pantry for the hungry of Washington, and a variety of outreach that includes mission trips both here and abroad. Opportunities for service and fellowship span all ages!
I am also new in the St. Paul’s community of faith, discovering the amazing variety of great things God is doing through the congregation. I have served congregations in New England and more recently, in higher education as executive assistant to the Seminary President in Gettysburg. My mission is to walk with the congregation as St. Paul’s engages in discernment toward calling a new permanent pastor.
I invite you to worship with us on a Sunday morning, and to participate in any of the ministries. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at or 202-966-5489. Also, please feel free to contact the other dedicated staff members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church who are listed in the staff link: Deaconess Cassie Brown, Ms. Lisa Wackler, and Ms. Joy Belew.
May God continue to bless you and may you find God’s grace among us at St. Paul’s.
Yours in Christ,
The Rev. John Spangler, Pastor
