St. Paul’s ministries support and empower its members in their call to be faithful, welcoming and generous. Among its responsibilities are support of discipleship and lifelong learning, increasing awareness about the centrality of prayer, and welcoming and inviting members and friends.

Adult Sunday School Class

Altar Flowers: Donors are invited to place flowers on the altar in honor or memory of loved ones. Contact: Bente Longfellow, Office Administrator at blongfellow@stpaulslutherandc.com.

Altar Guild: Members of the Altar Guild prepare the altar for worship and the celebration of the sacraments. Contact: Mary Ballou 202-244-6806.

Archives: Volunteers who help organize, categorize and maintain the records and historical data of the church. The goal is to educate our congregation about the legacies of St. Paul’s. Contact: Bobby Lerch 301-654-5104 or bobbylerch@aol.com.

Assisting Ministers: People who help to lead the creed and prayers, during worship. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell. At the church office.

Banner Bearers: Youth who assist in the 11am worship service by carrying a banner in procession. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Baptisms: The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is celebrated during worship. Baptisms are scheduled throughout the year. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Barber Shop Singers: A community group of men who meet every Monday at 7:00pm in the lower auditorium. Contact: Ed Bose 301-946-0934.

Bell Choir: The Hand Bell Choir plays during worship and rehearses every Wednesday at 7:00pm in the nursery school classroom. Contact: Lexy Mueller, Bell Choir Director

Bible Study: Offered occasionally throughout the year on many different subjects. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Business Manager: The business manager of St. Paul’s is Dan Groeber. He manages the use of the church facilities and finances. Contact: Dan Groeber at the church office.

Campus Ministry at AU: Volunteers who reach out to the students at American University.

Capital Interfaith Hospitality Network: An interfaith group that provides shelter for homeless families in our community. Contact: Julie Murphy, Executive Director 202-363-5198 or juliecihn@thrivent.net.

Center for Immigration Law and Practice: An outreach program to immigrants and their families seeking asylum and residency in the United States. Contact: Sabrina Balgamwalla

Children’s Choir: The Children’s Choir meets Sundays at 12:15pm for singing, music games, learning and fun. Children in 1st through 6th grade can participate. Contact: Aliine Otten, Music Director at the church office or aotten@stpaulslutherandc.com.

Church Decorating: Volunteers who help decorate the sanctuary in preparation for Christmas. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Clutterer’s Anonymous: A 12-step recovery program that offers help to the true clutterer, who is overwhelmed by disorder. Meets every Monday at 7:30 in Schafer Hall. Contact: 310-281-6064 for other meeting times and locations.
Coffee Hour: A time of food, fellowship and hospitality in the portico following the 11:00am service. Contact: Nancy Shearer

Communion Assistants: Volunteers who assist with the distribution of Holy Communion during worship. Contact: Kay Cartwright 202-966-5040.

Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place: A partner organization of St. Paul’s Shelter that provides outreach to the homeless in our neighborhood. Contact: Bill Long 202-364-1419.

Concerts and Recitals: Musical performances are held at St. Paul’s during the course of the year. Contact: Aline Otten, Music Director at the church office or aotten@stpaulslutherandc.com.

Confirmation: A two year program for 7th and 8th grade youth that prepares them to affirm their baptisms. Classes meet every Wednesday from 4:45-6:00pm in room 207. Contact: Pastor

Counseling: The pastors are available to meet with individuals and families in times of crisis and discernment. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Cradle Roll: Outreach to the newly baptized of St. Paul’s through cards and mailings. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Crucifers: Youth who assist in worship by carrying the cross in procession. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Dinner Volunteer: A team of people who take turns bringing a hot dinner to our homeless shelter residents each night. Contact: Torri Mumm at torri_mumm@yahoo.com.

Explorer’s Class: A discussion group that focuses on issues in Christian faith and in life. The group meets on Sundays in Epiphany Chapel from 9:45-10:45am. Contact: Miles Kimber at

Financial Secretary: The Financial Secretary of St. Paul’s is Carol Vreim. She monitors the giving of St. Paul’s members and distributes quarterly financial statements. Contact: Carol Vreim at vreimc@aol.com.

First Communion Class: A class for children of all ages to prepare them to receive Holy Communion for the first time. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Flower Arrangers: Volunteers who arrange the flowers that are used during Worship. Contact: Office Administrator Bente Longfellow at the church office or

Funerals: Upon the death of a loved one, the pastors are available to help with funeral arrangements and to comfort the grieving. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Homeless Shelter: A shelter for 5 men that operates year round in the church and provides shelter, food and counseling. Contact: Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Memorial Committee: A team of volunteers who has oversight of the giving and dedication of gifts to St. Paul’s in preparation for Anniversary Sunday in January. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Missionary: Jaime Bugaski is St. Paul’s missionary serving at the Sons of Thunder orphanage in Zambia. Contact: Jaime Bugaski at jaimebuggy@yahoo.com.

Mission Teams: Two mission teams are being formed to travel to Zambia in 2008 to serve for two weeks at the Sons of Thunder orphanage. Contact: Pastor Lovell at the church office.

New Member Classes: Quarterly classes offered for those interested in becoming members of St. Paul’s. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

New Member Sponsors: Members of St. Paul’s who help new members adjust to being part of the St. Paul’s community. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Nursery: A professionally staffed nursery is available on Sundays from 9:45am-12:15pm for young children. Volunteers are needed to supplement are paid staff. Contact: Cherie Sprenger 301-656-6242.

Reconciling in Christ: St. Paul’s is a reconciling in Christ congregation that openly welcomes gay, lesbian and transgender individuals to become part of the faith community. Contact: Pastor Omholt or Pastor Lovell at the church office.

Recycling Coordinator: The recycling coordinator will work with the Stewardship of Creation Team to make sure recycling at St. Paul’s gets going. A volunteer is needed! Contact: Bill Dent at
